Joe Swash's sister Shana's 'normal job' 19 years after EastEnders role

Metro01-05-2025
Shana Swash first appeared on our screens over two decades ago as Demi Miller in EastEnders, alongside real life brother Joe Swash.
The actress, 34, was involved in a hugely controversial storyline that saw Demi give birth at just 13 years old.
The character drew the attention of Albert Square locals when she arrived with her family in 2004, due to her pregnancy.
The famous face spent two years on Albert Square as part of the Miller family, but was written out of the show in 2006 when Demi left to live in the Cotswolds with her mum.
Life for Shana has changed a great deal since she left Walford. In 2021, she opened her new coffee business Swash and Jones in Banard Park, Islington.
The establishment was featured during last night's episode of BBC reality series Stacey & Joe, which follows Joe's life alongside TV presenter wife Stacey Solomon and their family.
Siblings Shana and Joe then enjoyed a hot chocolate and chatted about his upcoming fun run for Comfort Case UK – a charity that provides comfort cases filled with belongings to youngsters entering the care system.
Later, we saw the two take part in the race, with Shana joking: 'I thoroughly enjoyed it when I got to the end – great cause, awful race – that's what I have to say!'
She also gave birth to her first child, Kitty Frances Swash Jones, with fiancé Nick Jones in 2023.
The star previously opened up about juggling her business while starring in the film Love Without Walls.
'It's difficult, but I did Love Without Walls right before I opened Swash and Jones.
'So, at the moment, things are happening at really nice times where they fall into place with each other', she explained to Express.co.uk.
'I work for myself, so I can come and go as I please, and that's the glory of it. So if something does come up, I can shut up or get somebody in, and I can go and do some work.'
She added: 'My social life has gone from zero to 100 all of a sudden, it's so lovely to be able to have the time to go and spend with friends and family. But yeah, that's what I always say I'm thankful for – working for myself.'
Discussing what it was like opening her business after the Coronavirus pandemic, Shana said: 'That came out of Covid and lockdown, and not having a job, and needing something.
'It was a real change-up, because I was doing something that I've always wanted to do.
'So I always say I was kind of thankful for Covid in a weird way for getting me up and out and doing it.

Coronation Street favourite will make a sensational return to the show as new Rovers Return landlord... as ITV strike back after EastEnders reinstated Kat Slater and Alfie Moon at the Queen Vic

Coronation Street bosses have taken action to ensure the show's infamous pub isn't outshone by EastEnders' reinstatement of Kat and Alfie Moon at the Vic. In a bid to ensure that soap fans' eyes are also on the Rovers Return, they have brought back Catherine Tyldesley, 41, (AKA Eva Price) as the pub's new sexy landlady. She will not be alone in catering to the drinking needs of Weatherfield and will be joined by Aaron McCusker, 46, who will play her new husband. An insider told The Sun: 'Corrie bosses were never going to take EastEnders ' shrewd decision to reinstate Kat and Alfie at the Vic lying down. 'So they took their time looking for the perfect actor to play her husband to Eva as she makes her return to Corrie as the new boss of the Rovers. 'When Aaron walked in, and once paired with Catherine, bosses knew they had the perfect partnership to run the soap's iconic pub.' Describing the pair's chemistry as 'electric', the insider noted that Aaron will bring his Irish charm to the pub as the pair put on a 'happy and loved-up' display. However, despite having all the friendliness associated with the Irish, the insider stressed that Aaron is not a character to be messed with. They added: 'It's the start of an exciting new chapter in the pub's history.' In case your memory needs refreshing, Cath left the show back in 2018 to pursue other acting opportunities and bosses have reportedly been trying to convince her to return for years. While Aaron is a newbie to the cobbles, fans might recognise him from the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, where he played Freddie Mercury's partner, Jim Hutton. The actor also made a name for himself in Shameless as Jamie Maguire. News of the latest change on the cobblestones comes after it was announced that the show had been pulling in record viewers after making one recent change. The change took place in October 2024, when the long-running show became available to view on ITVX from 7am on the day of broadcast. Describing the pair's chemistry as 'electric', the insider noted that Aaron will bring his Irish charm to the pub as the pair put on a 'happy and loved-up' display This meant that soap fans could either chose to tune in early or watch their favourite soaps at a time that better suits them. The decision to make the change came after BBC soap East Enders made a similar switch to iPlayer a few years ago. Following the change, both Corrie and Emmerdale, which also made the switch, have enjoyed a record 124 million streams in 2025's first quarter. This meant that there have been an impressive one billion streams on ITVX so far this year. To put the change into context, compared to this time last year, soap viewing has increased by 35 percent. ITV's Managing Director of Media and Entertainment Kevin Lygo said: 'We have totally transformed our streaming offer with ITVX over the past couple of years. 'All our teams internally, alongside the best producers in the business, have helped deliver these brilliant numbers, by producing, promoting and delivering this fantastic content to audiences to stream.'

Strictly ‘drug probe' star was ‘off their face' on booze during show & crew smelt alcohol on their breath

ONE of the Strictly stars involved in the drugs probe was also suspected of drinking while working on the show after other cast and crew smelt alcohol on their breath. The Sun exclusively revealed at the weekend that the BBC had called in external lawyers to explore claims that two people from the dance contest had been taking cocaine. They were widely known to be using the drug, and it's been alleged that one of these Strictly performers were equally infamous for being a drinker. So much so that it was believed that junior members of the team were asked to keep an eye on them, during last year's show, to look for signs that they may have been boozing during work hours. When The Sun took these claims to the BBC last year they said they were not true, but its understood that the drugs probe may end up scrutinising all of their behaviour. A TV insider said: "The person in question is renowned for loving to party, and that is a major problem when it impacts on their ability to do the job they need to do on Strictly in a safe and professional manner. "It's not just about something being illegal or legal, it's about the BBC's workplace policies and how the behaviour of certain individuals can impact on their work colleagues. "On a very physical show like Strictly, with lots of sets and moving parts, the idea of someone being intoxicated in any way is wholly unacceptable." It's now believed that the BBC are set to offer the two stars at the centre of the drugs storm the chance to attend rehab. It comes amid claims it was widely known they took cocaine on the show, with a celebrity claiming it was "well known on the show that two stars took cocaine" One star allegedly said to another, about a third: "Have you seen their pupils ... they're off their face." Executives are now considering adding random drugs tests next year when Strictly tours where after-parties are known for wild scenes. A BBC spokesperson: 'We do not recognise these claims and, as previously outlined to The Sun, the scenario they put to us involving anyone being asked to monitor an individual is categorically untrue.'
