New trailer for 'Project Hail Mary' gives first look at Ryan Gosling in space

NBC News30-06-2025
A first look at 'Project Hail Mary,' the upcoming science fiction thriller starring Ryan Gosling, captures how a middle school teacher is suddenly tasked with saving the world — from space.
Based on Andy Weir's 2021 novel of the same name, 'Project Hail Mary' centers around Ryland Grace's mission to space after a mysterious astronomical phenomenon threatens the existence of humanity.
In a trailer for the film, which premiered exclusively on "TODAY" June 30, Gosling is pictured with long hair and a beard, shouting, 'I just woke up from a coma.'
'And I'm not an astronaut,' he repeats several times — until the next scene shows him echoing the same sentiment well before his fateful mission.
The trailer explains that the sun is dying, and Ryland, a former scientist turned middle school teacher, might be the government's only hope in understanding why.
The mission is called Project Hail Mary, given Ryland's 'long shot' at surviving it. With his background in molecular biology, Ryland is dubbed the Earth's only hope.
The thrilling trailer, featuring Harry Styles' 'Sign of the Times,' sees Ryland struggle to survive in space light-years away from Earth. And as he works to communicate his findings to his team, he may encounter a few aliens along the way.
'Project Hail Mary' will also feature Sandra Hüller, known for 2023's 'The Zone of Interest' and 'Anatomy of a Fall.'
The screenplay was written by Drew Goddard, while the film was directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The movie will be released in theaters and in IMAX on March 20, 2026.
Weir also wrote 'The Martian,' which was adapted into a 2015 film, starring Matt Damon.

Today show hosts Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie react live on air to being named in the Daily Mail + Power List

Savannah Guthrie and Al Roker have shared their responses after they were named in DailyMail+ Power List rankings. Today show co-anchor Savannah, 53, was named the morning show style queen thanks to her 'professional, yet approachable' looks. Meanwhile, Al, topped the inaugural list, sweeping the board in every category for morning show hosts. The genial New Yorker, who has been with NBC since 1978, is seen as the most likable of the 15 main breakfast show hosts included in our exclusive polling, carried out by J.L. Partners. Al, 70, is also the most fun, truthful, knowledgeable, least biased, and the host that those polled most wanted to spend time with. Both broadcasters reacted to their honors live on Tuesday's episode of the Today show. Meteorologist Dylan Dreyer announced Savannah's accolade and told viewers: 'This morning DailyMail+ is releasing its first ever power list. And they just unveiled the ranking of top morning show hosts. Guess who made the list? 'Our very own Savannah Guthrie has been crowned the morning show style queen.' Referring to her co-star Jenna Bush Hager, mom-of-two Savannah joked: 'That's because I borrow all Jenna's clothes!' 'No, I borrow your clothes and stain them and put them back in your closet,' Jenna, 43, retorted. Expressing her gratitude, Savannah added: 'That's very lovely. Thank you, Daily Mail.' Revealing Al's title during the Third Hour of Today, Dylan said: 'DailyMail+ just put out their first ever power list of morning show hosts. 'Earlier we told you that Savannah Guthrie was crowned the morning show's style queen. Al Roker was also recognized. Mr. Roker was ranked most liked, most trusted and the morning host that Americans want to hang out with.' Although visibly delighted with the honor, Al joked: 'What is wrong with you people? What is your problem?' 'Everybody loves everything about you,' Dylan pointed out. Sharing his true feelings, Al admitted that the honor is 'very nice.' 'But the fact of the matter is nobody gets to something like this without working with really good people,' he added. 'So that allows you to do whatever somebody thinks is nice.' DailyMail+ unveiled its inaugural Power List this Tuesday, giving the definitive ranking of the most influential figures in American media. Based on exclusive polling, our Power List captures public sentiment around likability, trustworthiness, perceived bias and knowledge. Essentially, it tells you who Americans like and trust… and who they don't. In terms of overall shows, our list sees NBC's Today emerge as the resounding network winner. On top of Today veteran Roker's triumph, his NBC colleagues Jenna, Carson Daly, and Hoda Kotb — who stepped aside from the network earlier this year — all rank positively, too. Today insiders were unsurprised by the results, with a senior source telling the Daily Mail that network execs were quietly delighted by the findings.

Shia LaBeouf is a Lion at heart as he picks up groceries with wife Mia Goth

Shia LaBeouf stepped out in Pasadena this weekend looking a far cry from his former self. The one-time child star, 39, was seen picking up groceries at Erewhon with his wife Mia Goth before she heads to the UK to film her next movie. Wearing a Detroit Lions T-shirt, shorts, sandals and a mesh ball cap, Shia's hair was closely cropped hair and he sported a bushy mustache. The rare outing comes just weeks after a documentary about him allegedly being violent premiered at Cannes Film Festival and just a couple months before he is set to head to court with an ex-girlfriend. Meanwhile, Mia is set to begin filming for an upcoming Star Wars spinoff alongside Ryan Gosling. During their outing, she looked casual-chic in a white, long-sleeved top, which was cropped to show off her bare midriff, and bright yellow shorts. She sported gray sneakers teamed with a black backpack and oversize sunglasses after stopping by the upscale grocery chain. She was seen walking out with a grocery bag in hand and a bottle of green juice while her partner was walking hands-free. Shia and Mia have been in an on-again, off-again relationship since 2012 when they first met on the set of the movie Nymphomaniac: Vol. II. They got married in 2016 but briefly separated two years later before reconciling and welcoming their daughter Isabel in 2022. He first rose to Disney Channel fame for his role as Louis Stevens on the hit series Even Stevens, winning a Daytime Emmy in 2003. Afterwards, he transitioned to film and played the leading star of the hit family comedy Holes that same year. He then went on to star opposite Megan Fox in the Transformers in 2007. Shia and Mia's outing comes weeks ahead of his trial, scheduled for September, against FKA Twigs after the singer sued her ex-boyfriend in 2020. Her lawsuit against him saw him charged with assault, sexual battery and infliction of emotional distress over the course of their nearly year-long relationship due to his 'relentless abuse.' The pair had started dating after she was cast in his mostly autobiographical 2019 film Honey Boy. He and Twigs, whose real name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett, dated from mid-2018 to mid-2019. He initially responded and acknowledged her charges but has since denied the allegations. Amid the scandal, he has stepped back from acting with only minor appearances sprinkled throughout the past few years. In March, one of his latest movies Salvable was released, being the third movie he has appeared in since 2020. In the past half decade, he has also made appearances in The Tax Collector and Pieces Of A Woman. In May a documentary painting him in a once again unflattering light premiered at Cannes Film Festival. First-time director Leo Lewis O'Neil's documentary, Slauson Rec, explores the experimental theater company LaBeouf previously launched in LA in 2018. The new documentary included footage of him being violent with students, drawing from several years' worth of intimate video recordings he signed off on.

Prince Harry's unexpected comments about 'protecting' Queen that raised eyebrows

A royal author has condemned Harry's past comments about the late Queen in an out of touch interview, with the Duke of Sussex's claims allegedly striking a nerve with the King Since Prince Harry quit royal life in 2020 and relocated to California, he has continued to speak out on the royal family in a series of interviews. Between his comments in the tell-all sit down with Oprah Winfrey, and his many bombshell allegations in his autobiography Spare, it's no secret that several of his claims have disrupted the royal family. ‌ One such interview came in April 2022, when the Duke of Sussex spoke to The Today Show in America ahead of the Invictus Games in The Hague, which had been rescheduled from 2020. Before Harry and Meghan travelled to The Netherlands for the Games, they made a brief stop in the UK and visited the late Queen Elizabeth in Windsor. ‌ ‌ When asked by Today host Hoda Kotb how the late Queen was doing after the prince's quick stop-off in the UK, he replied: 'Being with her, it was great.' 'It was just so nice to see her, you know, she's on great form, she's always got a great sense of humour with me and I'm making sure she's protected and got the right people around her.' Despite Harry's seemingly innocent comments about the brief reunion with his grandmother, the line about Harry making sure the Queen was 'protected' seemed to strike a nerve with several royal commentators. ‌ The Duke of Sussex was mocked by journalist and royal expert Giles Coren, who wrote in The Times: 'If he doesn't keep his grandmother on the straight and narrow, who knows what could happen? She could, say, marry someone unsuitable, or fall out with her entire family.' While Harry didn't elaborate on what he meant about the late Queen needing protection, his candid comment came one year after he made a similar sentiment during the tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey. ‌ During the interview, in which Harry and Meghan delivered a series of bombshells about the royal family, the Duke of Sussex that the late Queen had been badly advised on occasion by those around her. He said at the time: 'When you're head of the Firm there are people around you that give you advice. And what has also made me really sad is some of that advice has been really bad.' Elsewhere in the 2022 interview, Harry spoke fondly of his grandmother, and said during Harry and Meghan's brief visit, he had made her laugh. Despite admitting to having a nice time with the royal family, he confirmed that his home is now permanently in California. ‌ Host Hoda Kotb asked: 'You make her laugh, that's what she always says. Did you do it again?' to which Harry replied with a smile: Yes I did. Both Meghan and I had tea with her so it was nice to catch up with her.' 'Home for me now is for the time being is in the States and it feels that way as well. We've been welcomed with open arms and we have such a great community up in Santa Barbara.'
