Don't be fooled: Empangeni police issue scam alert
According to King Cetshwayo Cluster police spokesperson Captain Siyanda Shangase, a scammer will drop fake printed stacks of money in front of a targeted victim.
When the intended victim picks it up, a perpetrator lures them into a corner to split the money among themselves as they both 'found' it.
'When you agree to their request, the rest of the team working with the perpetrator would follow, and a broad daylight robbery would ensue.
'They strip you of all your valuables at gun- or knifepoint to the extent that they ask the victims to make EFTs while the other members are collecting the money,' warned Shangase.
