WWE 'Raw': Gunther defeats Jey Uso for World Heavyweight title

UPI10-06-2025

June 10 (UPI) -- Gunther was able to defeat Jey Uso and recapture the World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of WWE Raw.
The title match on Monday was a rematch from WrestleMania 41 back in April when Uso originally defeated Gunther for the championship.
Gunther got his revenge in the grueling and competitive rematch, which took place after a busy weekend for Uso.
Uso was coming off Saturday's Money in the Bank event where he teamed up with Cody Rhodes to defeat Logan Paul and Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena in a tag team match.
Uso was not at full strength against a fresh Gunther, who took advantage of the situation. Uso tried everything including a Spear followed by an Uso Splash, but it wasn't enough.
Uso attempted a Spear and an Uso Splash for a second time, but Gunther was able to avoid it and lock in a Sleeper hold. Uso tried his best to break free and even momentarily applied his own Sleeper, but Gunther quickly reversed it.
Gunther was eventually able to make Uso fade from the Sleeper, giving him the victory and the World Heavyweight Championship as Raw concluded on Netflix.
Also on Raw, Hall of Famer Nikki Bella returned and hyped up WWE's upcoming Evolution event, which will only feature the women's roster. This is the second-ever Evolution event, with the first having taken place in 2018.
Bella was quickly interrupted by Women's Tag Team Champion Liv Morgan, who took exception to Bella not mentioning her alongside other wrestlers that she praised.
Morgan, after getting into a war of words with Bella, knocked out the Hall of Famer with the Oblivion, her finishing move.
R-Truth also made an appearance on Raw after he returned to WWE due to fan outcry.
R-Truth stood up on the announcer's desk to announce that he was no longer R-Truth but instead Ron Killings. To drive the point home, Killings cut off his dreads using scissors.

Only Aaron Rodgers could complain about attention to get attention

Aaron Rodgers is mad. Not actually mad, of course. But acting superior to other people is just part of his brand. He likes dishing out admonishment. So, on Tuesday, having no appreciation for irony, he went on the Pat McAfee show and complained about being in the public eye and all the unwanted attention he gets. Advertisement Rodgers voluntarily goes on TV to complain that he doesn't like attention? That's a good one. The only reason for him to be doing a stint on a talk show, especially McAfee's show, in June is because he craves attention. His big news this week was that this was probably his last season as a player. For a guy who was mistreated by Brett Favre when they were teammates, Rodgers is utilizing his 'How to Turn Retirement Uncertainty into Extra Attention' playbook to perfection. This is the same guy who wanted to host Jeopardy while still playing football. The same guy who milked the spotlight when Robert F. Kennedy leaked Rodgers as a possible vice presidential candidate. Advertisement And the same guy who gave his blessing to NETFLIX to make 'Enigma' a three-part documentary about his life. The only surprising thing is that the Steelers are putting up with this. Signing Rodgers is about the most uncharacteristic move they've made. This is a franchise that had the forethought to get out of the Antonio Brown business and then watched from a safe distance as he poisoned the Raiders, Patriots and Buccaneers. Rodgers is an aging, polarizing distraction who hasn't been good for a while and doesn't seem that committed to playing football anymore. Pittsburgh might be hoping Rodgers will be good again once he's washed all the Jets stink off himself, but he looked washed up in his last season in Green Bay. Advertisement ESPN's Mike Tannenbaum thinks Rodgers is washed up: 'I think Aaron Rodgers is gonna be irrelevant by Thanksgiving.' But his football struggles haven't moved the cameras away from him because he knows how to court them. If he really wanted less attention, he could stop saying every controversial thought out loud. Aaron Rodgers likes the public eye when it makes him money and gives him an audience for his debunked science. He doesn't like people exposing things that aren't true. Sick of the public eye? Start by getting off McAfee. Committing to the bit Whether it's real or legend, Wade Boggs famously claims to have consumed 73 beers on a cross-country flight between Boston and Los Angeles. Advertisement At last week's Fanatics Fest, a ComicCon for sports fans, two fans created a 73-pack of Miller Lite and brought it to the autograph session for Boggs to sign. Did he actually drink 73 beers or did his counting skills diminish somewhere in the 40s? It's amazing some New England Brewery hasn't partnered with Boggs to sell a 73-pack. Perfect for BBQs and flights to Anaheim. Why can't the Bruins make a good bear logo? The Spoked-B is terrific and the classic design is nice in the new Bruins uniforms unveiled on Wednesday. But somehow, in over 100 years of existence, the Bruins can't quite get a good Bear logo. Advertisement The difference between the 1980s Bruins jerseys and the new ones is the bear on the shoulder. Instead of Meth Bear, they'll get this one: It's the latest underwhelming ursine to grace and otherwise good jersey. Meth Bear looks deranged. Pooh Bear looks like a Build-a-Bear's dad. On the yellow shoulder patch (below), the bear is trying to be too detailed and the one on the white jersey barely (no pun intended) looks like a bear. As the old saying goes, bear problems lead to font problems with the new bear. With the off-putting letter-sizing used in the word Boston, the current looks like a bear that has just finished its last meal before hibernation. Would it have been worse with Devers? It's been 10 days since Craig Breslow said this quote about the Devers trade that will haunt him the rest of the year. Advertisement 'I do think there's a real chance we're looking back and we've won more games than we otherwise would have.' The Red Sox are 4-6 since, have lost five straight and are fading in the Wild Card race. There's a real chance Breslow never recovers from this move. Real Jeopardy! At the time, only Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig had reached that milestone. If the Flyers make their pick at 6 and James Hagens is still on the board, the Bruins should draft the BC star immediately. WWE Night Of Champions 2025 Results, Winners And Grades On June 28

John Cena defends the WWE Championship against CM Punk. WWE Night of Champions 2025 advertised two title matches, including John Cena defending his WWE Championship against CM Punk, and the crowning of a new King and Queen of the Ring. Cody Rhodes faces Randy Orton in the King of the Ring finals, while Jade Cargill faces Asuka in the Queen of the Ring finals. The King and Queen of the Ring will also become No. 1 contender for a world title match. WWE Night Of Champions Results On June 28, 2025 WWE Night Of Champions 2025 Highlights, Winners And Grades From Saudi Arabia Cody Rhodes Def. Randy Orton English may not be their first language, but fans in Saudi Arabia sang every word to both Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes' theme songs. Both Rhodes and Randy were cheered wildly during their entrances. Fans went back and forth chanting for Cody and Randy, but eventually settled into 'RKO' chants. The two stars paused as fans went into business for themselves with an 'ole' chants. Rhodes went to the top rope early and paid for it as Orton answered with a superplex. Orton sold his lower back after hitting the move as Cole played it up by saying 'perhaps it seized up again.' Rhodes, playing a de facto heel, immediately went after Orton's back. Fans actually booed Cody Rhodes as he wrapped Orton's back around the post. Wade Barrett said we were seeing a different side of Cody Rhodes. Orton sold his back brilliantly, struggling to hook the leg after making a spirited comeback. Orton kicked out of the Cross Rhodes, and moments later, Rhodes walked into an RKO for another nearfall. Orton teased a punt to a huge reaction, but he hesitated like Rhodes at WrestleMania 41. Fans chanted 'Yes!' prompting Orton to go for the kick, only to miss and get trapped in a Figure 4. Cody ate a second RKO while going for the Cody Cutter, but he kicked out in a great false finish. Babyface Orton brought a steel chair into the ring, and when the referee absconded with it, Orton exposed the steel turnbuckle. Cody rammed Randy into the turnbuckle and won the match. Rhea Ripley Def. Raquel Rodriguez Rhea Ripley and Raquel Rodriguez were dressed in similar full-bodied gear, which made it seem like a tag team getting into a fight. Ripley took a scary bump early in the match, but the referee checked on her immediately and she was okay. After teasing a table spot, Rhea knocked Raquel off the table and went for a somersault. Rodriguez caught Ripley and slammed her through a table cover propped up on the barricade. Ripley took off her belt and whipped the hell out of Raquel Rodriguez, but in a bodysuit, it didn't look all that painful. Roxanne Perez hit the ring and attacked Rhea Ripley after her recent alliance with Raquel. Perez took a suplex on the outside for her troubles. The distraction led to Rodriguez throwing Ripley into the steel steps. After Rodriguez propped up a table on the top rope, Ripley won the match with a Riptide from atop the table. Sami Zayn Def. Karrion Kross Fans were really into Sami Zayn, but they treated Karrion Kross like 2023 Karrion Kross. I guess Internet wrestling promos doesn't translate Arabic just yet. Kross got a lot of offense, including Doomsday Saito and a Death Valley Driver. Zayn countered a Kross Hammer with a Blue Thunder Bomb for a nearfall. Sami worked Riyadh into a frenzy while setting up for a Helluva Kick, only to be intercepted by Kross and trapped in a rear-naked choke. Saudi exploded when Sami raised his arm and fought out of the choke. Kross trash-talked Zayn in the corner, but Sami hit the Helluva Kick as an arrogant Kross ran to the opposite turnbuckle. Solo Sikoa Def. Jacob Fatu This match moved slowly with several rest holds, almost as if they were saving some of the bigger spots for down the road. The match got interesting when Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa returned, followed by the debut of the unnamed Hikuleo, who chokeslammed Fatu on the table. Solo won the US Title with the Samoan Spike and the new Bloodline reformed. Jade Cargill Def. Asuka Asuka was very popular in Saudi Arabia, while Jade Cargill was booed. Cargill seemed fired up by the icy reception in Saudi. Fans loudly chanted for Asuka early on in the match. Her strategy was to take out Jade's legs and keep her grounded. Asuka slapped on a knee bar, but Cargill turned it into an impressive wheelbarrow suplex. Fans backed Asuka during a striking battle, which ended with a stiff backhand from Asuka punctuated by a Codebreaker. Asuka went for an Empress Impact during a comeback, but Jade countered with a Jaded for the win. Fans were deflated with the result, but that's their problem. John Cena Def. CM Punk Both John Cena and CM Punk got babyface reactions, but Cena was cheered more. The pace was slow early, with each wrestler exchanging holds, including AJ Lee's Black Widow from CM Punk. After an exchange of finishers, Cena accidentally took out referee Dan Engler. This brought out Money in the Bank winner Seth Rollins and his unnamed faction.
