ITV forced to halt filming of Stephen Mulhern show after fire on set

Metro19 hours ago
Filming of Stephen Mulhern's game show You Bet! was brought to a halt due to a fire on set.
The Saturday Night Takeaway and Dancing On Ice host, 48, was working on the ITV show in Yorkshire at the time, shooting a special Emmerdale segment.
It's been reported that a car burst into flames, with the fire spreading to prop vans used by crew members.
As a result, thousands of pounds worth of equipment went up in smoke.
According to MailOnline, two fire engines were called to the scene.
An eyewitness described what unfolded as 'carnage'.
'The blaze just started from a random vehicle, which then resulted in vans used by the crew also going up in flames,' they explained.
'There was obvious panic, and it's a miracle nobody was harmed.'
It's said the fire started 'within close proximity to the soap,' but thankfully, it didn't spread inside where filming actually happens.
Speaking after the incident, a spokesperson for You Bet! also said: 'Following an incident that was unrelated to filming, production for You Bet! was suspended as a precaution.
'The situation was promptly assessed by the fire services, and no one was injured or affected.
'The health and safety of all individuals involved in the making of the programme remains our highest priority.'
Also confirming their attendance to the matter, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire Service explained that they were called to 'reports of a small vehicle on fire on Harewood Avenue' at 3:57pm on Friday.
On the arrival of their two crews, the fires were extinguished. The cause has been recorded as accidental.
Photos from the scene illustrate the extent of the damage, showing how the blaze completely destroyed what was inside the trucks.
The set was located on the grounds of Harewood House in Leeds, with Mulhern there to record a challenge to appear in the upcoming series.
Filming of the programme – which is a revival of the original format, which first aired in 1988 – will continue this week.
In August 2024, ITV announced that Mulhern and Holly Willoughby would front two special episodes of You Bet!, in which a celebrity panel bets on the ability of members of the public to accomplish typically unlikely challenges and stunts.
It was later revealed that Catchphrase host Mulhern would host the next full series solo, with Willoughby having quit in March.
The reboot will comprise seven episodes and a Christmas special, but, in a twist to the format, each will be filmed in different locations across the country.
An ITV spokesman said previously about the switch-up: 'Free from the restrictions of the studio, our epic challenges are about to get a whole lot bigger.
'Watching on, our celebrity panel's job is simple; they must decide if each challenger will succeed – yes or no. If they guess correctly, they'll be awarded points.
'The Celebrity with the most points at the end of the show will receive £5,000 for their chosen charity.'
You Bet! will be aptly renamed You Bet! On Tour for the upcoming series, and bosses are hoping Willoughby will be up for returning at some point as a guest panellist.
Other famous panel members will include Zoe Ball, Rob Beckett, Alex Brooker, Rylan Clark, Alesha Dixon, Alison Hammond, and Danny Jones. More Trending
Speaking ahead of its release, Mulhern – who recently left his lucrative role at Butlin's – expressed his excitement: 'I'm absolutely thrilled that YouBet! is back – and this time we're hitting the road!
'Each week, I'll be joined by a top celeb panel as our challengers take on some brilliantly bonkers and amazing challenges.
'With the title of You Bet Champion on the line, it's going to be unbelievable from the start.'

You Bet! was originally hosted by Sir Bruce Forsyth from 1988 to 90, before Matthew Kelly took over from 1991 to 1995. Darren Day then hosted from 1996 to 1997.

EXCLUSIVE Love Island's Megan Forte Clarke is 'raging' after seeing how producers edited the show - but regrets ending her romance with Tommy Bradley after reducing him to tears

Love Island star Megan Forte Clarke says she is 'raging' after watching how her final episodes were edited by producers following her shock dumping from the villa. The Dublin-born Islander, 24, told MailOnline she was heartbroken after seeing love interest Tommy Bradley break down in tears because she kissed co-star Conor Phillips behind his back. But the contestant, who was dramatically voted out of the ITV2 show last week after the public ranked her their least favourite female, insists the sequence of events were manipulated and she was unfairly portrayed in the worst possible light. Megan was coupled up with Tommy, 22, by chance during the show's launch and the pair appeared to only have eyes for each other until the theatre performer developed a new connection with Conor. She was filmed passionately kissing the rugby player on the terrace and they later spent an intimate night in the private Hideaway as Tommy sobbed to his co-stars. Viewers, who sympathised with Tommy and voted in their thousands to eliminate Megan, even branded the reality star a 'bully' despite cast members being encouraged to act on their feelings in the TV villa. The Dublin-born Islander, told MailOnline she was heartbroken after seeing love interest Tommy Bradley break down in tears because she kissed co-star Conor Phillips behind his back She was filmed passionately kissing the rugby player on the terrace and they later spent an intimate night in the private Hideaway as Tommy sobbed to his co-stars Megan said: 'Obviously, seeing Tommy cry and then it cuts to me and Conor kissing on the terrace, I can understand why people are raging, I was raging. 'But obviously it didn't play out like that in real life. It broke my heart. That was the last thing I wanted, to see him upset. 'After the events happened, you could see he was having a laugh. We clashed on the way we handled things... he's a lot more levelheaded and I let my anger get the best of me. 'I didn't like seeing him upset at all because he is an absolute angel. It's not good he has been upset and broken down but the fact he feels comfortable enough with the boys speaks volumes for their friendship.' Megan and Tommy were predicted to be Love Island finalists or even the winners of this series after quickly forming a close bond. But tensions between the couple over trust and rumours which had circulated in the villa came between them, with Megan feeling as though Tommy didn't take her word for gospel. Now, the star says she feels regretful following the way she handled arguments between herself and Tommy and wishes she could have remained more composed, which may have salvaged their connection. She was coupled up with Tommy before pursuing her feelings for Conor, which ultimately led the public to the vote against her during the latest poll Rugby player Conor was left in tears after saying goodbye to Megan yet he chose to remain in the villa despite the pair's growing connection She said: 'I am happy that I pursued things with Conor because it always would have been a what if but with the Tommy situation, I could have handled myself better. I was in a very angry head space with Tommy. When you hear all of the he said/she said you can get very wound up and quite easily in there because there isn't a much else going on. 'Unfortunately, Tommy got the brunt of that. My temper got to me... I probably just needed to take a deep breath. 'It is so hard to navigate because obviously we're in the villa saying we're all open but then you do get jealous, it's weird territory. Everything happens for a reason doesn't it.' To the viewers it appeared as though Conor's pursuit of Megan came out of nowhere given he was happily coupled up with Welsh bombshell Emily Moran. But Megan says her relationship with Conor was being formed for weeks in scenes which didn't make the show's edit. She said: 'Me and Conor had been speaking since day one it just wasn't necessarily shown so he was always in the picture but when Emily came in and he was also getting to know Toni as well, it just fizzed out. 'When he picked it back up, I was shocked as you probably could see bu it was the time to explore it.' The Irish contestant, who was compared to Maura Higgins ahead of her villa entrance, says she would fly back to Mallorca for a second chance at love in a heartbeat - but will be watching closely watching Conor's behaviour as to whether they pick up from where they left off. She said: 'Conor was really upset when I left and he was giving it all, I don't know what to do. But I didn't want him to leave, I didn't know what was going to happen and we only had a couple of days properly together. 'I wouldn't want him to make a rash decision out of emotion, but we shall see how he behaves, if someone comes in fair enough but as of now, I think there is something there so I will see how it goes. 'I will definitely be watching the show but not for too long because the FOMO gets me, I want to be in there, but I have to see the girls and their best bits and how they are getting on with the boys. In tonight's instalment of Love Island, two bombshells enter the villa and Conor is invited onto a date by new arrival Billykiss, who's a content creator, also from Dublin. When asked how she feels about the latest bombshells, Megan said: 'I'm like Conor, please stay away, don't forget me!'

EXCLUSIVE Man who vomited before partner romped with another lover on TV reveals what REALLY drove him to throw up in humiliating moment cut from Channel 4 show

The man who vomited before his partner romped with another lover on TV has revealed what really drove him to throw up - and it never even made it to air. Channel 4 's show, Open House: The Great Sex Experiment, sees couples try and open up their relationship with varying degrees of success. Couple Tom and Lauren, from Devon, are one of several pairs on the programme and recently made headlines. Scenes in a previous episode appeared to show Tom being sick after chatting to non-monogamy expert Effy Blue, who told the pair that they had to have sexual experiences with other people without each other. However, the couple have revealed the reality behind the situation to MailOnline. According to Tom and Lauren, the real reason for the strong reaction wasn't what viewers may think. Lauren said: 'So Tom throwing up, they actually cut the scene. So that was actually because he had to be a life drawing model.' During the episode, the couple are introduced to Gage and Olivia, who they build connections with. 'But, it was still nerve-wracking to meet Olivia and Gage,' Lauren added. Tom agreed: 'It was really nervous in that sense. But yeah, it was mainly because I got so overwhelmed and it just took the toll on me, basically.' In scenes previously obtained by MailOnline, Effy told viewers: 'Today is about challenging Tom to be independent. 'I'm curious to see how that will affect the dynamics they have between them. Lauren needs to be a partner to Tom, not a caretaker.' When they returned to their room, Lauren told Tom: 'Don't be nervous. You absolutely got this.' Lauren told the camera: 'It was my idea. It was my idea from the start. Yes it's throwing me and Tom in the deep end... 'But to be able to have him to have the confidence that we can go off, have our fun, come back to each other at the end of the night and it's absolutely insane.' The voiceover said: 'But the thought of flying solo entirely naked isn't sitting well with Tom.' Tom can then be heard being sick in the toilet and Lauren ran to him with some water. Reflecting on the first episode they appeared in, Lauren described how it was 'cut a little differently to how we initially thought'. She added: 'They made me out to be kind of like a experienced sex pest that basically irrelevant of Tom's health condition, wanted to swing and if we didn't, we'd break up.' Tom was diagnosed with Bicuspid aortic valve, a heart condition that means the main valve does not work properly. Lauren received some backlash online but admitted she expected some 'trolling'. She said: 'So as you can imagine, the internet kind of went a bit crazy, but the second episode was so so much better and to be honest, I kind of knew that we'd get a bit of trolling anyway. 'It was more just the shock of watching how they cut it, which you never know how they're going to until, it obviously shows. It was just a little bit of a shock, it made up for it with the second one doing really good.' The couple praised the show for bringing them closer together and boosting their confidence. 'We're both more confident in going out to parties we're more closer as a couple,' Tom said. While Lauren reflected on how their communication had improved thanks to their time with the show's therapist, Effy. She said: 'We spent a lot longer with Effy than the TV show actually showed. 'So we spent hours with her while we had our stay and it was really helpful. 'Communicating the little things and just how important that is, whether that's to do with the sex, the swinging, or even just to do stuff at home, it doesn't matter, and it's just definitely made us closer.' Tom personally wanted to gain confidence in his appearance and the show has given him the boost he needed after struggling with his health diagnosis. He said: 'When I was skinny before I got my health scare with the heart condition, I basically gained a lot of weight, being like 14 stone in muscle, then going straight up to like 19 and a half stone, because I couldn't do anything about it. 'I couldn't exercise, I couldn't do what I wanted to do. So basically, I just went to eating, getting really depressed, and I just got myself into a hole. 'And going on that TV programme has helped me massively, and it's also helped out a lot of other people as well, because I've been getting lots of good feedback from other people. So actually for me, it's helped me massively.'

The Chase viewers speak out as host Bradley accepts 'wrong' answer

Jenny Ryan, also known as the Vixen, competed against two contestants in the final round of ITV's the Chase in an episode hosted by Bradley Walsh that aired yesterday Some viewers were left confused over an answer that was accepted by host Bradley Walsh on an episode of The Chase that aired this week. It came during a team's final showdown against Jenny Ryan on the ITV quiz show. An episode that aired yesterday saw four contestants take on Jenny, 43, who is also known as the Vixen, in a series of general knowledge rounds. Only two of them, Nick and Laura, made it to the final round against her, though. ‌ The contestants had amassed a prize fund of £3,000 by that point and the pair managed to get 14 correct answers in their last round. Jenny then faced her final questions and one of her answers caught the attention of viewers at home. ‌ Early on in her final chase, Bradley, 65, asked: "What colour top indicates semi-skimmed milk on bottles?" After taking a moment over the question, Jenny responded: "Red and silver." The host reacted to her answer: "I'll accept." Some fans were confused over the decision, though, with them suggesting that the correct answer should have been green. They shared their thoughts on X, with one viewer writing on the platform: "Semi-skimmed milk tops are green." Another asked: "I thought semi-skimmed was green?!" Someone else commented amid discussion about the episode: "Weird he just accepted a wrong answer!" Whilst another person wrote in a post: "Semi-skimmed is green!" It was however pointed out that glass and plastic containers differ in colour coding. Some fans noted that glass bottles for semi skimmed milk have foil caps featuring red and silver stripes, whilst plastic alternatives often have green tops. ‌ Addressing the confusion, one person wrote on X this week: "Semi skimmed milk in glass bottles are red/silver striped. Poly containers it's green." Another said whilst the episode aired yesterday: "On bottles it's red and silver stripes." It isn't the first time that the question has prompted a reaction, with the episode having previously aired in 2022. At the time, it similarly was met with reaction from viewers over the accepted answer by host Bradley on the quiz show. After answering the question, Jenny went on to get more correct answers in the final chase than the two remaining contestants, despite some pushbacks. Although they didn't win the money, they received praise from the chaser. ‌ Jenny, who had seven seconds to spare, told the team that they had "great answers" to a few "tricky questions". She told them: "I think that shows that the total in the final chase doesn't tell the whole story because you scored 14 with some great answers to some tricky questions." She added that as a result, she faced some challenging questions herself. Jenny said: "It meant that the equal set for me had some tricky ones in there that were gonna catch me out, but also some straightforward ones that I should have got." The Chase airs most weekdays on ITV and ITVX from 5pm.
