‘Medical trip' turns deadly for UP man as wife, her lover kill him midway
A woman from Uttar Pradesh's Aurangabad district has been accused of conspiring with her lover to murder her husband after luring him on the pretext of medical treatment, police said on Saturday. According to the police cited by news agency PTI, the woman, identified as Puja, allegedly lured her husband, Bikku, on the pretext of visiting Gayaji for medical treatment.
However, during their return journey, she, along with her alleged lover Kamlesh Yadav, ran him over with a Scorpio SUV near a deserted stretch of road, killing him instantly.
Talking about the case, police said that the accused has been arrested and has confessed to her crimes. 'She killed her husband with the help of her lover. She has been arrested and has confessed to the crime. Efforts are underway to nab the other accused involved in the case,' said Kumar Rishiraj, SDPO of Daudnagar.
In a similar incident in Telangana, a 23-year-old woman and her 35-year-old lover were arrested along with six others on Friday for murdering the woman's husband, just weeks after their wedding, police said. The victim, Ganta Tejeshwar (32), a land surveyor, went missing on June 17. His body was found on June 21 near Panyam town in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh.

District SP T Srinivasa Rao said the main accused, Tirumala Rao, was in a relationship with Sujata, a sweeper at his office, and later with her daughter Aishwarya. Despite marrying Tejeshwar under family pressure on May 18, Aishwarya remained involved with Tirumala and conspired with him to kill her husband. 'Aishwarya wanted to get rid of Tejeshwar so that she could marry Tirumala Rao,' the SP said. The couple had even planned to flee to Ladakh after the murder.

ISIS module case suspect Saqib Nachan passed away in a Delhi hospital on Saturday, days after suffering a brain haemorrhage, PTI reported citing an official. He had been receiving treatment at a private hospital in the national capital for the past four days, according to the official. The former Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) office-bearer was being held in Tihar prison and was shifted to a hospital on June 24 after his health worsened, an official said. Doctors later confirmed that Nachan had suffered a brain haemorrhage, the official said. His condition deteriorated further on Saturday, and he passed away at 12.10pm. The official added that his body would be released to his family after the post-mortem, with his last rites scheduled for Sunday in Borivali village near Padgha. Nachan was first convicted by the Supreme Court in 1997 for plotting terror attacks in collaboration with Khalistani groups in 1990. He was later sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a series of bomb blasts between 2002 and 2003, including attacks at Mumbai Central, Vile Parle, and Mulund stations that left several dead and injured. After completing his sentence, Nachan was arrested in 2012 for the attempted murder of a VHP activist but was released on bail in 2014. In 2023, he was again arrested by the NIA for allegedly administering oaths of allegiance (bayath) to recruits of ISIS.

Puja Banerjee, husband face FIR by Goa Police for abducting, extorting money from Bengali filmmaker
Goa: TV actor couple Puja Banerjee and Kunal Verma have found themselves in the legal hotseat after the Goa Police filed a FIR against the couple for allegedly abducting and extorting money from Bengali filmmaker Shyam Sunder Dey, officials said on Saturday. An FIR was first filed at Panache police station in Kolkata on June 12 based on a complaint by Dey's wife, Malabika, against the actor couple. However, since the alleged incident took place in North Goa, the case was later transferred to the Calangute Police, a police official told PTI. As per the FIR, the accused seized the victim's two mobile phones, forcibly extracted his personal data and passwords, and threatened to misuse them. A police official said Dey had been asked to appear before Goa Police for recording his statement. "We have asked him to appear before the investigating officer as soon as possible," the official said. Goa Police booked the actor couple, Piyush Kothari, and others on the charges of kidnapping, assault, and extortion. Dey's wife stated in the FIR that her husband shared a familial relationship with Banerjee and Verma, who offered to fund his business project. Dey has 50 films to his credit. "He is frequently approached by investors and lenders for his film projects, and in that capacity developed a close, almost a family relationship with Kunal and Puja, who had offered him to fund for his business project," the complaint reads. She claimed that her husband was working on a script writing assignment and driving a rented car with his assistant in Goa on May 31 when he was abducted. "On May 31, a black-coloured vehicle intercepted Shyam Sunder's car and he was abducted by goons, Puja Banerjee and Kothari. He was forcefully taken to an unknown location, where he was assaulted and tortured by Banerjee, Kunal Verma, and the hired goons," Malabika alleged. The accused threatened the filmmaker with false implication in a narcotics case if he failed to pay ₹ 64 lakh. "During this illegal confinement, the accused seized his two mobile phones, forcibly extracted his personal data and passwords, and threatened to misuse them," the FIR stated. The victim was taken to a hotel where he was staying and then moved to an unknown villa on June 1. Malabika alleged that her husband managed to arrange and pay approximately ₹ 23 lakh to the accused between May 31 and June 3 under immense mental pressure. She wrote an email on June 3 to concerned senior police officers in Goa who managed to rescue her husband on June 4.

Meet Parag Jain, RAW's new chief and a ‘super sleuth' who enabled precision strikes during Operation Sindoor
The central government on Saturday appointed Parag Jain, a 1989‑batch IPS officer of Punjab cadre, as the new Research & Analysis Wing (RAW) chief. He will succeed Ravi Sinha, whose current term concludes on June 30. Jain is set to assume office on July 1, 2025, for a fixed two‑year tenure, according to an ANI report. Currently heading the aviation Research Centre, which played a vital role during 'Operation Sindoor' by collecting intelligence on the Pakistani armed forces, Jain has previously served as SSP, Chandigarh and DIG Ludhiana, a HT report said. He has also represented India in Canada and Sri Lanka. During the Canada posting, he had also taken on the Khalistan ecosystem there and had repeatedly warned Delhi that it was morphing into something dangerous, the report added. Jain has also been posted in Jammu and Kashmir, where he played an important role in the Centre's counter-terrorism strategy in the strife-torn Union Territory. The HT report also said that Jain was posted in Jammu and Kashmir during the abrogation of Article 370 and Operation Balakot. According to an India Today report, Jain is known as a 'super sleuth' within intelligence circles and has a reputation for effectively combining human intelligence (HUMINT) with technical intelligence (TECHINT), a mix that officials say has been crucial to several high-stakes operations. A HT report said that Jain played an operational role during Punjab terrorism days while serving in Bhatinda, Mansa, and Hoshiarpur.
