New Delhi, Jul 24 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday rolled out the expanded Health Information Management System (HIMS) and said that people will no longer need to queue up to take appointments as it will be possible to book them online.
Gupta described the HIMS as a crucial step towards transparency and efficiency in public healthcare.
'It's a huge relief for the people of Delhi, who will no longer have to stand in long queues or run from pillar to post. Everything is going digital,' she said.
Over 93 lakh ABHA IDs have already been generated in Delhi, she said.
'The health data of every patient will now be digitally recorded, making it easier for doctors to provide continued and effective treatment. This digital platform will connect hospitals, doctors and patients on one network,' she added.
Taking a swipe at the previous AAP government, Gupta said that while thousands of crores of rupees were invested in the name of healthcare, not a single project was completed.
'Covid came and went, but even then, they could not make a single hospital operational. They left behind foundation pillars and iron porta cabins. There were no medicines, no doctors and no accountability,' she said.
The CM said Delhi will be developed as a hub of super-speciality hospitals and modern facilities to ensure people from across the country come here for quality treatment.
According to officials, the HIMS will allow patients to book appointments online, receive digital OPD slips, and access their health records in real time.
It is already live for OPD registrations in 35 government hospitals and will soon be implemented across all public health institutions in a phased manner, the officials said.
The 34 Ayushman Mandirs inaugurated by the CM are located in Shilampur, Kalkaji, Burari, Yamuna Vihar, Gandhi Nagar, Malviya Nagar, Shakur Basti, Paschim Vihar and Begaumpur, among other areas.
The officials said these centres will offer a range of primary health services, including vaccination, maternal and child care, wellness counselling and yoga sessions.
Health Minister Pankaj Singh said the government has set up a total of 68 Ayushman Mandirs within a month, and that Delhi's health infrastructure is being strengthened rapidly.
The current government is focused on delivering results and completing unfinished projects that were pending for years, he said. 'This is not a government of advertisements, this is a government that works.' The eight new Jan Aushadhi Kendras, which will offer essential medicines at subsidised rates, have been opened in government hospitals for the welfare of the economically disadvantaged.

Guwahati: For Keya, Shristi and Mofida – students of different Kendriya Vidyalayas of Assam – grappling with challenges in the form of hyperactiveness, social anxiety, fear of certain subjects and lack of self-confidence had become a routine affair. Help finally arrived in the form of their very own school teachers, who donned the role of a mentor to guide not only Keya, Shristi and Mofida, but thousands like them, to tide over academic problems, performance anxiety, behavioural difficulties and even issues at home. They are among more than 2,000 students of the state who benefited from an innovative programme, 'Each One Reach One', which has now completed a year now. "The teachers give their cent per cent in the classroom. But, not all students can move with the pace of the teachers and some need help. Not just academic help, but also guidance to tide through their emotional problems, peer pressure and parental issues," Chandrashekhar Azad, Deputy Commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Guwahati regional office (RO), said. "This initiative is to lend a helping hand to the students in need of some special attention, be it in their academics, behavioural issues or even problems at home that are impacting their mental wellbeing," he said. The idea to launch the programme germinated when Azad was interacting with students appearing for their board exams last year. "I asked them to write down what is it that they feared the most, especially with an important exam coming. I assured them it would be kept anonymous. And the candid jottings were revealing," Azad told PTI. It was not just the usual desire to score more marks, but these young minds were facing anxieties about their future, pressure from peers and parents, difficulties with certain subjects and troubles at home, he said. When Azad announced the 'Each One Reach One' initiative for the session 2024-25, teachers came out voluntarily to 'adopt' such students for the entire session. "There was no instruction on whom to 'adopt'. The teachers identified their wards themselves. And not just the teachers, principals, vice-principals, headmasters and even the two assistant commissioners of the RO 'adopted' students," the DC said. As many as 2,260 students in 42 KVs under the Guwahati RO were adopted by 1,450 teachers in the first session, with the mentorship continuing for the same student in some cases for the second year now. Out of these, 183 Class-10 students were mentored, achieving a 99.5 per cent pass rate, and 285 Class-12 students were supported, recording a 98.6 per cent success rate, he said. The mentors also identified key learning and developmental gaps, like 29.4 per cent struggled with literacy skills, 21.7 per cent had issues in STEM subjects, 12.6 per cent faced attention and focus difficulties, while 9.1 per cent showed emotional and behavioural concerns. Sharing stories of some of the successful mentorships, he cited the instance of Keya, a 'Balvatika-3' student of PM Shri KV, AFS Jorhat. A hypersensitive child, Keya had difficulty even sitting still when she joined school. "Managing her boundless energy was a challenge, which was successfully done by her mentor as Keya began participating in activities and even started writing beautifully, with the 'written work' initially the biggest challenge for her," Azad said. A Class-10 student of one of the KVs in Guwahati, Shristi was struggling with Maths and Science while also grappling with problems at home, negatively affecting her performance at school. "The help she received from her mentor was not limited to guidance on the subjects alone. He reached out to her parents and together with them, they helped Shristi overcome the anxieties and it resulted in her performing well in these subjects and also coming out of her cocoon," Azad said. For Mofida of KV, IIT Guwahati, performance anxiety, social anxiety and disconnect, lack of self-confidence and sleeping and eating disorders were taking a toll as she was preparing to complete schooling. She was introduced to mindfulness and time management techniques, proper nutritional and sleep plans along with parental counselling, as Mofida emerged a confident young girl at the end of the session. Azad said the 'Each One Reach One' initiative, inspired by the National Education Policy 2020, has grabbed attention nationwide, with many KVs now moving ahead to replicate it in their own regions. "Some of the ROs have already started it… on a pilot basis. It is inspiring that a noble approach we launched has proved to be beneficial for our students," he added. It said every day, hundreds of dog bites were being reported in the city and on its outskirts, leading to rabies and ultimately, children and the aged were falling prey to the dreadful disease. At least 60 incidents of violence at Punjab's public health facilities in a year; docs remind AAP govt of 'unfulfilled' promise to deploy security
In Punjab, at least 60 incidents of extreme violence — 'endangering the lives of doctors and other healthcare staff' — have occurred at government healthcare facilities over the past year, showed data compiled by the Punjab Civil Medical Services (PCMS) Association. Amidst this, demanding adequate security arrangements at the earliest, the Association on Saturday wrote a fresh letter to Punjab Health Secretary Kumal Rahul, stating the AAP-led 'state government is yet to fulfil its promise of deploying security personnel at government health facilities on August 19, 2024, for the safety of health workers. Doctors expect the promise will now be fulfilled by August 19 this year.' Criticising the state government, Association president Dr Akhil Sarin said even as it was announced during a press conference on August 19, 2024, that 'security personnel would be deployed at public healthcare facilities 24X7', followed by a 'written assurance' by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on September 11, 2024, 'the promise remains unfulfilled'. Further highlighting the surge in violence at public healthcare facilities, the Association emphasised the 'lack of security', particularly in rural areas, leaving woman doctors vulnerable during night duties. This lack of security is also cited as a factor contributing to high attrition rates among health workers. 'The incidents of extreme violence have shaken the cadre to the core, but we are still performing our duties with utmost dedication. It is high time for the government to fulfil its promise and provide adequate security to healthcare staff. The PCMS cadre is the only cadre involved in high-risk activities — on ground 24X7 duty in medico-legal tests, which also involves examining criminal elements and getting exposed to anti-social elements in the society… We hope the government, which claims to bring 'Sehat Kranti' (health revolution) in the state, will solve such basic issues, instead of making us beg to save our lives,' Dr Sarin said, adding representatives of the Association are also set to meet the Punjab Health Secretary in Chandigarh on Monday — to discuss the security issue. According to district-wise data compiled by the Association, at least six of the total incidents of extreme violence against doctors and medical staff were reported from Amritsar, five each (Pathankot and Hoshiarpur), four each (Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Muktsar, Moga), three each (Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, SBS Nagar, Mohali, Bathinda, and Patiala), two each (Tarn Taran, Sangrur, Malerkotla, and Ferozepur), and one each (Ropar, and Barnala). Mentioning such incidents in the letter, the Association stated a 'terrifying incident' recently reported from Talwandi Sabo sub-divisional hospital (SDH), where a patient attacked a healthcare worker on-duty with a sharp-edged weapon, injuring him severely. In June 2025, another patient fired gunshots inside the emergency ward of the Kartarpur Community Health Centre (CHC). At Sultanpur Lodhi SDH, two parties had a violent face-off, following which a doctor on-duty and the staff were forced to flee and lock themselves inside the building. Similar incidents were reported from public healthcare facilities in Jagraon, Zira, Dera Bassi, Hoshiarpur, and Gurdaspur among others, the letter read.
