WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre is reportedly set for an extended leave of absence from the company following his grueling Steel Cage match against Damian Priest at Saturday Night's Main Event on May 24, 2025.
The brutal end to his Saturday night match, where Priest defeated him with a "sickening Con-Chair-To before calmly walking out of the cage door," is the storyline reason for his upcoming time off.
This news comes from reports by Mike Johnson of PWInsider and Fightful Select. They stated"The Scottish Warrior" has been "banged up for several weeks" and working through injuries, though he continued to appear on television as planned.
Ahead of the match, McIntyre had revealed to the Orlando Sentinel that he was already "unable to fully turn his head," adding that "working hurt is part of the game" for seasoned athletes. There is currently no word on when McIntyre will be back in the ring.

This development occurs as it was also reported that McIntyre's opponent, Priest, had also been working injured for some time. Despite being banged up, Priest has reportedly earned significant praise backstage for continuing to perform at a high level.
McIntyre entered 2025 with a strong focus on regaining a World Championship. He was a participant in the Royal Rumble match in January, aiming to secure a main event spot at WrestleMania 41. While he had a dominant showing, he was ultimately unsuccessful in winning the Rumble.

Following the Royal Rumble, McIntyre became embroiled in the #1 Contender's picture for the World Heavyweight Championship on Raw. This often put him at odds with other top contenders like Priest and CM Punk.
He participated in the Elimination Chamber match in February 2025 in Perth, Australia, where the winner was to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania.
McIntyre was a favorite but lost due to Priest's interference, further fueling their animosity. At WrestleMania 41, Priest went over McIntyre, which furthered their feud. At WWE Backlash, McIntyre competed in a Fatal 4-Way match for the United States Championship against then-champion Jacob Fatu, Damian Priest, and LA Knight. It's unclear when McIntyre will be back on WWE television, but fans are hoping it won't be for long.

WWE Night Of Champions 2025 Results, Winners And Grades On June 28
John Cena defends the WWE Championship against CM Punk. WWE Night of Champions 2025 advertised two title matches, including John Cena defending his WWE Championship against CM Punk, and the crowning of a new King and Queen of the Ring. Cody Rhodes faces Randy Orton in the King of the Ring finals, while Jade Cargill faces Asuka in the Queen of the Ring finals. The King and Queen of the Ring will also become No. 1 contender for a world title match. WWE Night Of Champions Results On June 28, 2025 WWE Night Of Champions 2025 Highlights, Winners And Grades From Saudi Arabia Cody Rhodes Def. Randy Orton English may not be their first language, but fans in Saudi Arabia sang every word to both Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes' theme songs. Both Rhodes and Randy were cheered wildly during their entrances. Fans went back and forth chanting for Cody and Randy, but eventually settled into 'RKO' chants. The two stars paused as fans went into business for themselves with an 'ole' chants. Rhodes went to the top rope early and paid for it as Orton answered with a superplex. Orton sold his lower back after hitting the move as Cole played it up by saying 'perhaps it seized up again.' Rhodes, playing a de facto heel, immediately went after Orton's back. Fans actually booed Cody Rhodes as he wrapped Orton's back around the post. Wade Barrett said we were seeing a different side of Cody Rhodes. Orton sold his back brilliantly, struggling to hook the leg after making a spirited comeback. Orton kicked out of the Cross Rhodes, and moments later, Rhodes walked into an RKO for another nearfall. Orton teased a punt to a huge reaction, but he hesitated like Rhodes at WrestleMania 41. Fans chanted 'Yes!' prompting Orton to go for the kick, only to miss and get trapped in a Figure 4. Cody ate a second RKO while going for the Cody Cutter, but he kicked out in a great false finish. Babyface Orton brought a steel chair into the ring, and when the referee absconded with it, Orton exposed the steel turnbuckle. Cody rammed Randy into the turnbuckle and won the match. Rhea Ripley Def. Raquel Rodriguez Rhea Ripley and Raquel Rodriguez were dressed in similar full-bodied gear, which made it seem like a tag team getting into a fight. Ripley took a scary bump early in the match, but the referee checked on her immediately and she was okay. After teasing a table spot, Rhea knocked Raquel off the table and went for a somersault. Rodriguez caught Ripley and slammed her through a table cover propped up on the barricade. Ripley took off her belt and whipped the hell out of Raquel Rodriguez, but in a bodysuit, it didn't look all that painful. Roxanne Perez hit the ring and attacked Rhea Ripley after her recent alliance with Raquel. Perez took a suplex on the outside for her troubles. The distraction led to Rodriguez throwing Ripley into the steel steps. After Rodriguez propped up a table on the top rope, Ripley won the match with a Riptide from atop the table. Sami Zayn Def. Karrion Kross Fans were really into Sami Zayn, but they treated Karrion Kross like 2023 Karrion Kross. I guess Internet wrestling promos doesn't translate Arabic just yet. Kross got a lot of offense, including Doomsday Saito and a Death Valley Driver. Zayn countered a Kross Hammer with a Blue Thunder Bomb for a nearfall. Sami worked Riyadh into a frenzy while setting up for a Helluva Kick, only to be intercepted by Kross and trapped in a rear-naked choke. Saudi exploded when Sami raised his arm and fought out of the choke. Kross trash-talked Zayn in the corner, but Sami hit the Helluva Kick as an arrogant Kross ran to the opposite turnbuckle. Solo Sikoa Def. Jacob Fatu This match moved slowly with several rest holds, almost as if they were saving some of the bigger spots for down the road. The match got interesting when Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa returned, followed by the debut of the unnamed Hikuleo, who chokeslammed Fatu on the table. Solo won the US Title with the Samoan Spike and the new Bloodline reformed. Jade Cargill Def. Asuka Asuka was very popular in Saudi Arabia, while Jade Cargill was booed. Cargill seemed fired up by the icy reception in Saudi. Fans loudly chanted for Asuka early on in the match. Her strategy was to take out Jade's legs and keep her grounded. Asuka slapped on a knee bar, but Cargill turned it into an impressive wheelbarrow suplex. Fans backed Asuka during a striking battle, which ended with a stiff backhand from Asuka punctuated by a Codebreaker. Asuka went for an Empress Impact during a comeback, but Jade countered with a Jaded for the win. Fans were deflated with the result, but that's their problem. John Cena Def. CM Punk Both John Cena and CM Punk got babyface reactions, but Cena was cheered more. The pace was slow early, with each wrestler exchanging holds, including AJ Lee's Black Widow from CM Punk. After an exchange of finishers, Cena accidentally took out referee Dan Engler. This brought out Money in the Bank winner Seth Rollins and his unnamed faction. WWE Night Of Champions 2025 Results As John Cena Defeats CM Punk Amid Chaos
John Cena is in the midst of his 17th WWE world title reign. (Credit: Craig Melvin/WWE via Getty ... More Images) John Cena and CM Punk ran it back one last time at WWE Night of Champions 2025, and it was 'The Champ' who reigned surpreme in a chaotic main event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. At WWE's latest overseas spectacle, Cena put his WWE Championship on the line against arguably his greatest rival of all-time for the first time in more than a decade. As expected, the two bitter foes battled back-and-forth in a spectacular match, reminding WWE fans why they are each other's best dance partner. On more than one occasion, it looked like Punk would best Cena and win the WWE Championship for the first time since 2013. But Cena had other plans, and after a slew of interference from stars like Penta and Seth Rollins, Cena was able to retain his WWE Championship. Some of the key highlights of Cena vs. Punk at WWE Night of Champions 2025 were: WWE Night of Champions 2025 Results For John Cena Vs. CM Punk The climax of Cena vs. Punk at WWE Night of Champions came when Cena teased a babyface turn, only to attempt a low blow on Punk and take advantage of Rollins' interference to pick up the win. That capped off what was the latest stellar encounter between Cena and Punk, who are past their prime and certainly a step slower but are still able to create magical moments that matter. In front of a red hot crowd in Riyadh, Cena and Punk were able to put on a show that reestablished their all-time great rivalry and hinted at a future babyface turn for Cena. Of course, WWE ensured that Punk was protected even in defeat, with Cena only winning after a ton of outside interference, including a thwarted cash-in by Rollins. That marked the third consecutive major title match in which Cena walked out as WWE Champion without a clean victory. Yes, it was more of the same for heel Cena, who eked out a win over Randy Orton at Backlash and did exactly that against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41. That is perfectly fitting of Cena's heel character that is striving to 'ruin wrestling,' but it's becoming incredibly tiresome. Cena continues to retain the WWE Championship through nefarious means just as he did at WWE Night of Champions 2025, and he will eventually need to get his comeuppance. But the teases of a face turn in Riyadh may prevent that from happening. At WWE Night of Champions 2025, the creative team laid the framework for a major SummerSlam match: John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes II. Anyone who was paid close attention to Triple H's booking over the past few years could see that Cena's win over Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 was ultimately going to lead to a rematch between the two stars. Cena's WrestleMania victory was all about getting that record-breaking 17th world title win, and now that he has it, there's no reason to keep the title on him for too long. During his run in the King of the Ring tournament, Rhodes defeated both Jey Uso and Randy Orton, giving 'The American Nightmare' a pair of marquee victories over two of WWE's biggest and most beloved stars. Surely, that wasn't a mere coincidence. Rhodes getting those two victories has set up a blockbuster rematch between Rhodes and Cena that gives the two stars a re-do after their disastrous WrestleMania 41 match. And if WWE's creative team has any idea what it's doing, Rhodes will leave SummerSlam as world champion as Cena transitions back to his natural face role.

WWE Night Of Champions 2025 Results As John Cena Plays Babyface, Beats CM Punk
CM Punk and John Cena face off on SmackDown in Saudi Arabia. John Cena faced CM Punk at WWE Night of Champions 2025, presumably for the last time, as WWE embarked in a bold storyline where CM Punk—like every human being who ever lived—had to confront his hypocrisy. In CM Punk's case, Punk faced the 'hypocrisy' of criticizing Saudi Arabia's human rights issues while still competing in a Saudi Arabian PLE. Is that hypocrisy? That doesn't seem any more hypocritical with an American criticizing the United States for the human rights violations that built this country, only to continue living in America. But I digress. CM Punk apologized to a Saudi fan for an old tweet after being booed during Friday's kickoff event, and it seemed to work as Punk was massively over with fans at Night of Champions. Cena seemed to join CM Punk in turning babyface for this crowd. First, Cena declined using the belt as a weapon after fans begged him not to with chants of 'No!' Then Cena stopped a Money in the Bank cash-in, only to be attacked by Seth Rollins' goons. Both Cena and Punk fought them off. The match ending, however, suggested otherwise. Everything That Happened With John Cena Vs. CM Punk Fans unanimously cheered CM Punk and sang his theme music. He received a mixed reaction during the ring introductions. Saudi chanted 'John Cena sucks!' as Cena marched toward the ring. Fans said Cena's intro, line for line, along with Mark Nash and he was cheered. There was a lot of posturing early on with Cena and Punk exchanging holds. Fans broke into 'Ole' chants, which seems to be a chant in appreciation for a main event-level match. This was the case during the opener between Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes. Punk enveloped Cena in a Black Widow hold, shades of AJ Lee, who was mentioned on commentary. The pace quickened a bit as Cena hit his signature comeback, punctuated by a Five Knuckle Shuffle. Punk cut Cena off before he could hit an AA and hit a comeback of his own with a running knee and a flying elbow. Cena fought out of the GTS and locked in an STF. Punk fought out of the Attitude Adjustment but ate a GTS for his troubles. Punk kicked out, planted Cena with a DDT and slapped on an STF of his own. After a second running knee, Cena countered the bulldog with a side slam and a second AA for a nearfall. Cena countered a cross body from Punk and hit a third AA for another nearfall. A desperate John Cena grabbed the WWE Championship belt in a familiar scene. Cena prepared to strike CM Punk with the belt as fans chanted 'No!' Cena tossed the belt to the side and went for the AA. Punk countered with a GTS for the nearall. Heel Cena going babyface for Saudi Arabia and almost losing because of it was certainly a choice. Michael Cole suggested Cena allowed the fans to get to him. Cena and Punk went back and forth with strikes, and Riyadh cheered for both. Cena accidentally took out the referee Dan Engler, leading to a GTS and a visual pinfall by Punk. Punk called for another referee, but he got Seth Rollins and his unnamed faction. Rollins sicced Bronson Reed and Braun Strowman against CM Punk. The pair hit an ugly double-spinebuster on the Arabic announce table. Fans chanted 'OTC" as Rollins called for an official. As Robinson sprinted down the ramp, he was pounced by John Cena, who continued to act like a babyface and was cheered for it. Cena hit the AA on Rollins as Breakker and Reed attacked John. This brought out Penta and Sami Zayn to even the odds. Both Cena and Punk fought off Rollins' goons as they had no choice but to attack the heels to prevent Rollins from cashing in. Cena was basically a full babyface at this point. Cena and Punk embraced in the ring, but Cena reverted to his heel ways and kicked Punk in the groin. Rollins hit the ring with a Stomp and Cena stole the pin for the win.
